The Role at a Glance

Our Annuity IT organization is growing and we’re excited to bring on an experienced Sr. Scrum Master for a fully remote position to support our fast-paced IT organization at Lincoln Financial.

This position will provide subject matter expertise and direction on complex projects/initiatives for assigned area(s) of responsibility to ensure Scrum theory, practices, and rules are understood and enacted. As the Senior Scrum Master, you will support two or more scrum teams within a fast-paced application development environment while adhering to Scrum principles. You will lead complex large scale and/or enterprise-wide Agile programs and coordinate with various program support teams.

What you'll be doing

  • Directing and enhancing organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives.

  • Identifying and recommending process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit.

  • Providing subject matter expertise and direction to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects.

  • Leading two or more scrum teams facilitating progress toward delivery goals using Agile practices and coordinating with other non-scrum teams involved in the effort.

  • Managing budget and schedules for assigned programs/projects to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery to meet goals and objectives.

  • Identifying dependencies and removing impediments to scrum team’s progress.

  • Facilitating core Agile ceremonies with two or more teams (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-up, Demo, Retrospective and Backlog refinement).

  • Participating, planning, and reporting out during PI sessions.

  • Managing, optimizing, and reporting on team health, cycle time and velocity.

  • Managing internal and external communication, improving transparency, and communicating information throughout the organization. Confident and comfortable communicating complex issues to senior business and IT stakeholders.

  • Facilitating collaborative sessions with internal clients and/or external vendors on complex/large-scale projects to formulate creative and practical solutions to software challenges.

  • Guiding assigned scrum teams to self-organize, ensuring and supporting empowerment of the team.

  • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.

  • Keeping the teams focused on the sprint and achieving sprint goals.

  • Lead and participate in scrum-of-scrum (SOS) cadences.

  • Coaching of scrum teams to support Agile adoption and application of principles.

  • Maintains expertise on industry and emerging software engineering trends for area of responsibility.

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

  • 5+ Years of experience as a scrum master leading multiple software engineering project teams to deliver high-quality software solutions using Agile techniques.

  • Computer Science or MIS Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) in IT or related business field. Prior experience as a software engineer.

  • Servant leader with a software engineering mindset and one how quickly removes blockers impacting the team.

  • Guidance and mentoring of team to self-organize and embrace empowerment.

  • Thorough understanding of multiple SDLC methodologies with an emphasis on Agile.

  • Ensures sprint and PI schedule is accurate, updated, and reflective of business priority.

  • Experience managing multiple teams simultaneously in an Agile environment, including onsite/remote/offshore team members.

  • Experience managing product and sprint backlogs and executing effectively/efficiently using Agile techniques such as Scrum or Kanban.

  • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: SAFE, XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc.

  • Experience with Agile coaching of assigned scrum teams.

  • Strong experience in managing multiple custom software engineering efforts.

  • Knowledge of enterprise Agile management tools such as Version One and Jira.

  • Proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.

  • Demonstrates the ability to use sound judgment and discretion regarding confidentiality.

Pay Range: $87,700 - $159,900

Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
